When is the best time to decorate a cake?
Fondant and marzipan can be applied to a cake 2 to 3 days in advance without any problems, provided you cover the cake well and store it in a cool, dry place. Make sure the cake is not exposed to direct sunlight or moisture, as this can affect the texture of fondant and marzipan.Melting chocolate and drips are best applied once the cake has cooled completely. Melting chocolate needs time to harden and adhere well. Apply drips after the cake has cooled and the base layer of fondant, marzipan or buttercream is firm.
Isomalt decorations are best applied after the cake has cooled and lined, several hours before serving, so they keep their shine and shape. Mirror glaze, on the other hand, should be applied to a well-chilled cake so that the glaze solidifies quickly and gives a smooth, mirror-like finish. Keep the cake in the fridge after applying the mirror glaze and take it out just before serving for best presentation.
For the perfect finishing touch, it is best to add sprinkles, spray, edible gold and decorations made with markers and decorating tubes to your cake just before serving. This way, they will retain their optimal quality and give your creation a beautiful finish.
